Decapsulation involves the removal of mold compound from an Integrated Circuit (IC) via combination of either acid (wet), laser or polish.

The application is as follows:

• IC internal visual inspection - front side decapulation
• delayering of a semiconductor - front side decapsulation
• photo emission inspection - both frontside and backside decapsulation
